Diamond Street was an impressive debut winner at Doncaster and looks a strong candidate for last year's winning stable, but in receipt of 21lb the 4yo filly MADAM SPEAKER looks a viable alternative. She was runner-up in what looked a warm race at Wincanton last month and is open to improvement. Lots of the newcomers are appealing on paper, with Lady Hope and Sheactslikesummer perhaps the pick of them, and the betting should be monitored closely for clues. Lover Desbois and Bailly's Comet are others to consider in a race full of interest.[Richard O'Brien] Show less
Spotlight: Out of a mare who won a bumper, and he made a really encouraging debut when readily accounting for six rivals at Doncaster (soft; 5-2 favourite; by 10l) in January; open to improvement and high on the list for a trainer-jockey combination that won this race 12 months ago.
Spotlight: Showed promise on debut over C&D and duly progressed to beat 13 opponents at Kempton (good to soft) last month, travelling well and just shaken up to assert; major player for a trainer with a fine record in this sphere.
Spotlight: Half-brother to the high-class jumper Romeo Coolio; got up late on to make winning debut at Wincanton in November and improved markedly when third in Listed race at Cheltenham (good ground) on New Year's Day; yard does well in bumpers and won this race in 2023; has to be considered.
Spotlight: Couldn't justify favouritism but still shaped well when second of 14 at Wincanton (good to soft) last month, no extra late on; likely to improve and gets weight from most of her rivals; leading player for in-form yard.
Spotlight: E37,000 2yo; No Risk At All half-brother to French 2m hurdle winner Lady Du Chenet; dam maiden jumper, half-sister to useful French 2m1f/2m2f hurdle winner Hotesse Du Chenet; yard has hit the target in bumpers of late with limited ammunition (6-30 in last five seasons); interesting on paper.
Spotlight: Built significantly on debut form when winning at Chepstow (soft; 13-2) in January by 15l, always in front and surging clear from over 1f out; today's conditions are likely to be less testing but he should still put up another bold show.
Spotlight: Much better effort so far when fifth in Listed event at Cheltenham (soft) in November, fading after racing freely; looks the stable's second string on jockey bookings but he doesn't have much to find on form and may progress further.
Spotlight: £19,000 3yo; Jack Hobbs half-brother to winners Marie De Medicis (French 1m), Wor Willie (1m4f/1m6f) and Dolly McQueen (1m3f); dam 1m4f winner; trainer has few runners these days but remains a force to be reckoned with (3-10 in last five seasons) in bumpers.
Spotlight: £54,000 3yo; brother to French 2m1f/2m3f hurdle winner Iban Roque; dam French 1m4f AQPS Flat and 2m3f/2m4f hurdle winner; needs watching in the market with Alan King (16% in bumpers in recent years) running two.
Spotlight: £15,000 3yo; by Getaway out of a bumper and useful 2m-2m4f hurdle/chase winner; that's a plausible pedigree for a race like this, and her stable's only previous runner in Britain this season (Saratoga in last week's Fred Winter) was successful; well worth a market check.
Spotlight: £55,000 3yo; Nathaniel half-sister to 2m4f hurdle winner Blue Run; dam 2m4f hurdle winner, half-sister to useful bumper and 3m/3m1f hurdle winner Lord Generous, out of top-class hurdler Lady Rebecca; bred to be useful and mainly Flat stable has had plenty of bumper winners over the years; could be the pick of the newcomers.
Spotlight: Debut winner at Wincanton (good) but blotted his copybook with a wayward display in C&D Listed event (heavy; 17-2) six weeks ago and needs to get back on track.
Spotlight: Unbeaten at Bangor (good) and Stratford (good to firm) last summer; may still be unexposed but he concedes weight all round and has plenty to find on the figures after seven months off.
Spotlight: Dug deep to make winning start at Carlisle (good to soft; 4-1) in February; however, that form doesn't look anything special and he'll need to progress to hold his own against today's much stronger opposition.
Spotlight: Nicely bred daughter of Telescope; did her best work late on when 10l fourth of 13 at Warwick (good to soft; 11-2) four months ago; improvement required to trouble some of these but that's not out of the question.
Spotlight: £20,000 3yo; by Passing Glance; brother to bumper/2m3f hurdle winner Glancing Jack; dam 2m-2m4f hurdle winner; stable has maintained a well-above-average strike-rate in bumpers (33%) this season; can't be discounted.
Spotlight: Only seventh of nine on debut at Ascot (good to soft; 6-1) last month, but she wasn't beaten far in bunch finish after meeting trouble in steadily run race; no surprise if she improves a fair bit with more luck.
Spotlight: £45,000 3yo; by Order Of St George; dam useful 1m7f-2m1f hurdle winner; would have to be useful to make a winning start in a race with plenty of depth, but she's in good hands and it's not impossible.
Spotlight: £26,000 3yo; by Order Of St George; dam bumper winner; pulled up on his only go in points but interesting that connections throw him in at the deep end for rules debut; worth monitoring in the market.
Spotlight: Fits the bill on pedigree (by Walk In The Park out of a bumper/2m hurdle winner) but he made no impact on debut at Kempton (good to soft; 22-1) four weeks ago; needs to have learned a lot in a short space of time.
